The Friends of the Tampa-Hillsborough Public Library present the third annual Family Festival at the John F. Germany Public Library, 900 N. Ashley Drive, in Tampa, Florida. There will be activities for every age group throughout the day and representation from genealogical and lineage societies. Genealogical presentations will be made by noted genealogists, authors, and podcasters George G. Morgan, Drew Smith, and by members of the library staff. Topics to be presented are:
 
  • DNA Testing in Late 2017 - What’s New?  (Drew Smith)  The world of DNA testing for genealogy is constantly changing. This session will bring you up to date on offerings from new testing companies and novel features from well-established organizations.
  • MyHeritage Library Edition:  Search for Your Ancestors in This Internationally Diverse Collection (George G. Morgan)  MyHeritage provides more than 8 billion genealogy records from Europe, the U.S., Latin America and beyond. This session provides an overview of MyHeritage Library Edition, a new database to be offered through the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library.
  • ‚ÄčFindmypast Community Edition:  Learn about Your British and Irish Ancestors  (Drew Smith) Findmypast provides billions of genealogy records from Great Britain, Ireland, the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand. This session provides an overview of Findmypast Community Edition, which can be used on computers in the Florida History and Genealogy Library.
  • Newspapers Presentation  (Library Staff)  This session will present the online newspaper database resources available through the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library, using both the computers in all library branches and accessible remotely from your home computer using your library card number and login. Details will be announced closer to the Festival, but planned databases to be discussed and demonstrated include America's GenealogyBank, America's Obituaries & Death Notices, TRAILS (index of obituaries and death notices published in the Tampa Tribune), and newspaper contents in Ancestry Library Edition, Findmypast Library Edition, and MyHeritage Library Edition. Content is subject to change.
